APPLETON (WLUK) — Martin Muniz-Lara of Greenville now faces federal charges for allegedly robbing a Bear Creek bank, after state prosecutors dropped their case Thursday. Muniz-Lara previously pleaded not guilty in federal court to two counts: armed bank robbery and brandishing a firearm during a crime of violence. A trial is scheduled for Feb. 17, 2026.
According to court records, Muniz-Lara entered the Premier Community Bank in Bear Creek in October, brandished a firearm, and demanded money. He also claimed to have a bomb and reportedly climbed over the desk area to get behind the counter. No one was injured, and a bank audit later determined $9,305 was stolen. Muniz-Lara has denied the allegations in interviews with police.
If convicted, the armed robbery charge carries a maximum sentence of 25 years, while the firearm charge carries up to life in prison, including a seven-year mandatory minimum to be served consecutively. Conviction would also include fines, a special assessment, and supervised release after imprisonment.
Authorities note that Muniz-Lara’s arrest also contributed to two additional arrests in a related drug investigation, according to the Outagamie County Sheriff’s Office.
