MADRID, Spain (WLOX) – A high-profile robbery at the exclusive Hotel Wellington in Madrid has taken a dramatic turn, with Spanish influencer Marta Hermoso facing serious allegations. The incident, which occurred in September 2024, involved Mexican businessman Enrique Abascal and the theft of 400,000 euros worth of valuable items, including luxury watches, bracelets, and cash.
Hermoso, who is well-known for her luxury, fashion, and travel content, was arrested by the Spanish National Police after being implicated in the robbery. Authorities claim she was involved in the theft shortly after Abascal’s arrival in Madrid for a business trip. On September 25, Abascal, 43, checked into the upscale Hotel Wellington, located in Madrid’s prestigious Salamanca neighborhood. Just days later, he returned to his suite to find that the door had been forced open, and his safe was emptied. Among the stolen items were three luxury watches valued at 360,000 euros, bracelets worth 6,700 euros, and 5,000 euros in cash, among other personal belongings.
Surveillance footage from the hotel revealed that Hermoso was seen entering the hotel with Abascal just one day before the robbery took place. The footage has become a key piece of evidence as the investigation progresses. Prior to the incident, Hermoso and Abascal had exchanged messages and spent time together, dining at high-end restaurants. Abascal had even complimented Hermoso’s voice, calling it “the sexiest in the world.”
However, after the robbery, Hermoso allegedly expressed concern over the possibility of a gang being involved in the crime. In a message, she said, “I’m a woman living alone; it’s normal for me to be worried,” to which Abascal reassured her. Despite his reassurances, Hermoso continued to voice her fears, suggesting that she was concerned about potential threats.
Following the robbery, police arrested Hermoso, along with three other suspects. All four individuals were seen leaving the hotel with a suitcase, believed to contain the stolen items. Although the individuals were charged with robbery with force, they were all released, with the investigation continuing. The suspects involved in the crime reportedly have over 50 prior police records.
Hermoso’s lawyer, Juan Gonzalo Ospina, has publicly defended her, claiming that she was not present at the hotel on the day of the theft. Ospina suggested that the police’s identification of Hermoso was erroneous and expressed frustration over the media’s focus on her, arguing that it overshadowed the involvement of other suspects. “It’s disgraceful that Marta is being singled out while there are other suspects involved,” he said.
Actress Mónica Pont, a friend of Abascal, also added to the narrative, revealing that Abascal initially suspected hotel staff might be behind the theft, particularly after displaying his luxury watches at the reception, which could have drawn attention. Pont further complicated the story by mentioning that Hermoso had allegedly threatened Abascal concerning his wife.
In addition to the robbery allegations, Hermoso’s past has come under scrutiny during the investigation. Reports suggest that she once approached the police regarding an extortion case, where a man threatened to release intimate videos of her unless she returned a Rolex watch that he claimed was missing. While Hermoso did not file a formal complaint at the time, the incident has raised questions about her motives and credibility.
As the investigation continues, authorities are focusing on the evidence against Hermoso and her alleged role in the robbery. Police suspect that she may have acted as a distraction for Abascal, while her accomplices executed the theft. However, Hermoso’s defense maintains that no solid proof links her to the crime.
