MEMPHIS, Tenn. — A man accused of shooting a repossession agent during a vehicle recovery has turned himself in to police.
Marshun Colbert, 26, surrendered to the Horn Lake Police Department on Thursday, where he was taken into custody on an outstanding aggravated assault warrant related to the shooting.
The incident occurred around 4:45 p.m. in the parking lot at 7256 Interstate Boulevard in Horn Lake, Mississippi. Police say a wrecker driver working for All Star Recovery was attempting to repossess an SUV when an argument erupted between the driver and Colbert.
During the confrontation, Colbert allegedly fired a shot at the repo agent. Witnesses say the mother of two tried to intervene and protect her children during the chaos.
According to local business owner Baha Hamed, whose shop is near the scene, people were shocked as the situation unfolded. “There was a lot of commotion,” he said. “Seconds later, a crowd had gathered outside.”
As the wrecker driver attempted to leave the scene, the SUV being repossessed fell from the lift and overturned in the parking lot. A woman inside the vehicle was taken to Baptist DeSoto Hospital, treated for injuries, and later released.
The wrecker driver drove himself to Baptist DeSoto, and was later transferred to Regional One Hospital, where he remains in critical but stable condition.
A local repossession company owner, who requested anonymity, confirmed that the victim is known in the industry. “It was terrifying. These situations are becoming more frequent,” she said. “My agents have also been shot at. And with current insurance rules, none of us can carry firearms.”
Police have not released additional details about pending charges or upcoming court dates.
