Carmen Casanova convicted after toddler suffers severe injuries

by Sophia Bennett

MARSHALL COUNTY, Ala. — A Marshall County woman will spend the next 40 years in prison following her conviction for child abuse.

Carmen Casanova was sentenced on Monday after pleading guilty last year to charges stemming from the severe abuse of her 2-year-old daughter.

According to first responders, the toddler was found with extensive bruising as well as serious brain and neck injuries, prompting the investigation and subsequent prosecution.

Casanova’s sentence reflects the severity of the child abuse and serves as a reminder of the legal consequences for harming a minor.
