In a significant breakthrough, the Uttar Pradesh police have exposed an inter-state marriage racket and arrested three individuals, including a woman, for allegedly cheating grooms by arranging fraudulent marriages using fake identities and forged Aadhaar cards.
According to police officials, the accused were involved in orchestrating sham marriages by sourcing women from West Bengal and providing them with counterfeit identification documents. These women were then introduced as prospective brides and married off to unsuspecting grooms in exchange for large sums of money.
Soon after the weddings, the brides would allegedly flee with cash, jewellery, and other valuables, leaving the victims defrauded and distressed.
One of the accused, Noorjahan Khatoon, also known as Kajal, confessed during interrogation that she had arranged multiple such fraudulent marriages across the region. Police said she charged hefty amounts from grooms while coordinating with other members of the racket to execute the scams.
The police have taken the trio into custody and launched an extensive investigation to identify and apprehend other individuals linked to the racket. Authorities suspect the network may be spread across multiple states and involve several more victims.
