ST. LOUIS — A man has been arrested in connection with the 2019 murder of Kristina Curry, a 16-year-old high school student who was shot and killed after telling her boyfriend she believed she was pregnant.
Marquise Quinn, now 26, was taken into custody this week for the shooting death of Curry, which occurred in the parking lot of Roosevelt High School in St. Louis.
According to a police affidavit, Quinn and Curry were in a relationship, and Curry had confided in him that she thought she was pregnant. Text messages revealed that Quinn arranged to meet Curry at a specific location on the high school grounds — the same spot where her body was later found surrounded by five 9mm shell casings.
The affidavit states that the victim’s phone was last unlocked shortly after midnight on May 23, 2019, shortly before police received reports of shots fired in the area. Curry’s body was discovered that morning by school employees.
Her mother, Christian Curry, described the loss as devastating. “This is hard. I don’t eat. I don’t sleep… It took something precious from us,” she told KDSK.
The case highlights a disturbing reality: pregnancy can be an extremely dangerous time for women, especially when the pregnancy is unwanted by the father. Experts say homicide is a leading cause of death for pregnant women in the U.S., with gun violence being a growing health crisis.
After six years, justice may finally be on the horizon for Kristina Curry and her family.
