WHEATON, IL — A Lombard man has been indicted on 16 felony charges after a years-long investigation linked him to more than 30 identity theft incidents and other serious crimes.
Mark Wrendina, 56, was arrested on Sept. 25 following a sweeping probe by the Wheaton Police Department that began in August 2022. The investigation uncovered a pattern of financial fraud and other offenses committed over a three-year span.
Wrendina faces charges including:
Identity Theft
Financial Institution Fraud
Forgery
Operating a Financial Crimes Enterprise
Possession of Child Pornography
Search warrants and subpoenas were executed at Wrendina’s home and several financial institutions, leading to a warrant for his arrest issued on Sept. 23.
Although Wrendina was granted pretrial release, the investigation remains ongoing.
“The Wheaton Police Department is committed to protecting our community and holding those who exploit others for personal gain accountable,” said Police Chief Princeton J. Youker.
Chief Youker also commended the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office and the department’s detectives for their persistence throughout the investigation.
