Mark Butterworth, Sean Nerney Charged in Burnley Burglaries

Marie Darbyshire also charged in separate shoplifting case

BURNLEY, UK — Three individuals have been arrested and charged in connection with a series of burglary and shoplifting offences in Burnley and Padiham, Lancashire Police confirmed.

Mark Butterworth and Sean Nerney, both 46, were apprehended with the assistance of the rural task force.

Butterworth, whose last known address is Elgin Crescent, Burnley, and Nerney, who is of no fixed abode, have been charged with:

Eight counts of shoplifting

Six counts of attempted burglary in a dwelling

Two counts of burglary in a dwelling

Both suspects have been remanded in custody pending a court appearance. Police have also applied for a criminal behaviour order against Butterworth.

In a separate case, Marie Darbyshire, 43, of Browsholme Avenue, Burnley, was arrested at her residence after being accused of shoplifting from Kitchens Garage. Police forced entry into her home during the arrest.

Darbyshire has been charged with eight shoplifting offences, and a criminal behaviour order application has also been submitted in her case.

A police spokesperson thanked the public, stating:

“A huge thank you to everyone who’s helped us this week — whether by reporting burglaries, providing CCTV footage, or giving witness statements. Your support is invaluable.”
