Mark and Kimberly Hefner Charged in Stolen Camper, Meth Bust

Couple arrested in Franklin County; meth, firearm, and stolen camper recovered

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ill. (KBSI) — Two people were arrested and face multiple felony charges after Franklin County deputies located a stolen camper along with methamphetamine and a firearm on April 8, 2025.

The Franklin County Sheriff’s Office received a tip regarding the possible location of a camper reported stolen on April 5. Deputies responded to a rural area north of Benton and found the stolen camper occupied by 46-year-old Mark S. Hefner and 39-year-old Kimberly D. Hefner.

Following the investigation, both individuals were taken into custody and charged with several serious offenses.

Mark Hefner’s charges include:

Theft over $10,000 (Class 3 felony)

Unlawful defacing of a manufacturer’s ID number (Class 2 felony)

Unlawful possession of meth with intent to deliver (Class X felony)

Unlawful possession of methamphetamine (Class 1 felony)

Bringing contraband into a penal institution (Class 1 felony)

Possession of a hypodermic needle (Class A misdemeanor)

Aggravated unlawful use of a weapon – firearm (Class 4 felony)

Possession of a firearm without a FOID – revoked (Class 3 felony)

Criminal damage to property (Class 4 felony)

Kimberly Hefner faces similar charges:

Theft over $10,000 (Class 3 felony)

Unlawful defacing of a manufacturer’s ID number (Class 2 felony)

Unlawful possession of meth with intent to deliver (Class X felony)

Unlawful possession of methamphetamine (Class 1 felony)

Bringing contraband into a penal institution (Class 1 felony)

Possession of a hypodermic needle (Class A misdemeanor)

Possession of firearm/ammunition without a FOID (Class 3 felony)

Criminal damage to property (Class 4 felony)

Authorities praised the deputies involved for their professionalism and commitment to recovering stolen property and removing dangerous substances and weapons from the community.

As with all criminal cases, both individuals are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
