ATTLEBORO, Mass. — A former office manager has been sentenced to 18 months in federal prison for embezzling over $400,000 from her Franklin environmental services employer, according to U.S. Attorney Leah Foley.

Marie Hobson, 55, of Attleboro, pled guilty to two counts of wire fraud and one count of filing a false tax return. Investigators say that between December 2019 and March 2025, Hobson inflated her payroll by approximately $268,046 in fraudulent expense reimbursements and misused her company credit card to cover personal expenses including country club memberships, vacations, cruises, timeshares, and home costs totaling over $105,000.

Hobson reportedly manipulated the company’s accounting software to hide the embezzled funds and failed to report the income on her taxes.

She was sentenced to 18 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, and ordered to pay $511,119 in restitution and forfeit $429,980.
