WEST END, N.C. (Feb. 11, 2025) — Marco Cheatham, 42, of West End, pleaded guilty on January 24, 2025, to charges of breaking and entering with intent to terrorize, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and habitual felon status. These charges stemmed from an incident in the early morning hours of September 13, 2023.

Incident Details
The case began when Cheatham repeatedly parked his vehicle on the property of a man he was acquainted with but did not know well. Despite being asked to leave, Cheatham returned to the man’s home around 2 a.m. on September 13, kicked in the front door, and entered the residence while brandishing a semi-automatic handgun. Cheatham waved the gun around, citing his displeasure over a previous exchange with the victim.

The man, alone at the time, was terrified and immediately called 911 after Cheatham left the scene. Law enforcement officers from the Moore County Sheriff’s Office and Taylortown Police Department responded, though Cheatham had already fled the area.

Cheatham Arrested and Charged
After processing the crime scene and gathering evidence, warrants were issued for Cheatham’s arrest. He was located the following day and found to be in possession of a .40 caliber semi-automatic handgun, leading to charges of firearm possession by a convicted felon. Cheatham was indicted by the U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of North Carolina and has entered a guilty plea in federal court.

Sentencing and Legal Outcome
In Moore County court, Judge Jessica Locklear sentenced Cheatham to 66-92 months in the Department of Adult Corrections. Cheatham will also face additional time in federal prison after his federal sentencing on February 19, 2025.

Assistant District Attorney Brian Chapman prosecuted the case, ensuring justice was served for the victim.
