MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) — Two individuals are behind bars after allegedly driving through a fatal crash scene on I-240 that claimed the life of Memphis firefighter Gary White, a 27-year veteran of the Memphis Fire Department.

According to Shelby County Jail records and arrest affidavits, 46-year-old Marcia Davis and 33-year-old Fabian Sanchez were arrested late Sunday night for separate but related incidents involving driving under the influence and breaching the secured crash site.

The crash occurred near Getwell Road, where White was riding westbound on his motorcycle. He collided with the rear of a Jeep, lost control, and was thrown into oncoming traffic. Memphis police confirmed several vehicles struck White’s body before he was pronounced dead at the scene.

While the Tennessee Department of Transportation had shut down the interstate for investigation and cleanup, both Davis and Sanchez allegedly ignored traffic cones and entered the closed-off area minutes apart. According to police, Davis, driving a blue BMW, struck White’s body during her breach of the scene.

Davis faces charges of DUI, abuse of a corpse, reckless endangerment with a motor vehicle, traveling on a closed roadway, reckless driving, and civil disobedience. Sanchez, who was driving a silver Dodge Ram, is charged with DUI, open container violation, lack of registration, and tampering with barricades.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol confirmed both vehicles were stopped shortly after entering the crash site and both drivers were arrested.

The investigation is ongoing.
