In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Tripura’s Government Railway Police (GRP) and Railway Protection Force (RPF) conducted a joint operation early on May 6, arresting two women at Agartala Railway Station for attempting to smuggle over 22 kg of ganja to Punjab.
The arrested individuals, Manju Devi (45) from Lakshmisharai district and Rachana Devi (36) from Bhagalpur district of Bihar, were found in possession of 22.405 kg of dry ganja. The narcotics were carefully packed in six packets, hidden inside two pit bags and a trolley bag.
According to Tapas Das, Officer-in-Charge of GRP Agartala, the duo had frequently used trains from Agartala to transport narcotics.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the ganja was bound for Punjab, where it would fetch approximately ₹4.5 lakh in the black market. A case under the NDPS Act has been registered at the Agartala GRP Police Station, and further investigation is underway.
