In a major operation near Delhi University’s North Campus, the Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) of Delhi Police arrested five individuals for illegally supplying prescription drugs without documentation or prescriptions. The accused include a medical store owner and a medical representative.
Deputy Commissioner of Police Apoorva Gupta confirmed the arrest of:
Manish Bhatle (26)
Devender (57)
Nikhil alias Gunnu (28)
Ankit Gupta (40)
Kapil (28)
The crackdown began on May 12 when police arrested Manish Bhatle near Shri Ram Institute on University Road, after he was found carrying two plastic sacks containing Tramadol, Dicyclomine HCI, Acetaminophen capsules, and 120 bottles of codeine-based cough syrup. He failed to produce any prescriptions or invoices.
Dr. Swapnil Patil, a drug inspector accompanying the team, confirmed that such possession without documentation violates provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.
Based on Bhatle’s confession, police arrested Devender, a retail pharmacy owner, and Nikhil. Their interrogation led to the arrest of Ankit Gupta, who runs a wholesale drug outlet, Ravi Medicare. The final arrest was of Kapil, a medical representative from Veena Enclave, Nangloi, on May 15. Kapil disclosed that he sourced the drugs from an individual named Rakesh from Udhyog Nagar, who is currently absconding.
The operation was supervised by senior police officials including Devesh Chandra Srivastva, Surender Singh, and Mangesh Kashyap. Investigations are ongoing to locate Rakesh and map the broader drug distribution network.
