Manipur Police Arrest KYKL Member and Murder Suspect, Seize Arms

Arrests Made and Weapons Seized in Imphal East District

Manipur Police have arrested two individuals in a series of significant operations. The first arrest was of Shamjetsabam Romananda Singh (23), an active member of the proscribed Kanglei Yawol Kanna Lup (KYKL), a banned militant group. He was apprehended on February 26 at Imphal International Airport, located in Imphal West District, under the jurisdiction of Singjamei Police Station.

In a separate operation, Potshangbam Sanahan Meitei (44) was arrested from Poirei, Imphal East. He is a suspect in the recent murder of Laishram Malemngamba (19), which occurred on February 10, 2025. The arrest marks a significant breakthrough in the ongoing investigation into the murder.

Additionally, security forces conducted a search operation in Kiyamgei Muslim Awang Leikai, in Imphal East District, leading to the recovery of arms and ammunition. The search, conducted on February 24, resulted in the seizure of a single-barrel gun, ten .303 rifle cartridges, three tear gas shells, and eleven .32 bore rounds, found near the eastern end of Kiyamgei Bridge.

The police have hailed these developments as significant steps in combating militant activities and ensuring justice in the recent murder case. The investigations are ongoing.
