The Cybercrime, Economic Offences, and Narcotics (CEN) police in Mangaluru have arrested two individuals from Kerala for their involvement in an online investment scam amounting to Rs77.96 lakh. The accused, Ummar Valiya Parambath (41) and Riyas MV (45), both hailing from Kannur, Kerala, were apprehended after a comprehensive investigation.
The case was initiated when an unidentified person used WhatsApp to mislead the complainant, falsely claiming that investments in the stock market would yield high returns. Over time, the complainant was defrauded of Rs77,96,322.08 under the pretense of profitable stock market investments.
Following a complaint, CEN police registered the case under relevant sections of the IT Act and the BNS Act. During the investigation, authorities traced the bank transactions linked to the fraud and discovered that Rs26,27,114.40 was transferred to an account in West Bengal. A portion of this amount, Rs6 lakh, was then transferred to Ummar Valiya Parambath’s account.
Riyas MV confessed to his involvement in the fraud, admitting that he withdrew ₹6 lakh from the account after being promised a commission for facilitating the transaction.
The arrested individuals were presented in court, and the investigation continues as the police work to identify any additional individuals involved in the scam.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of Mangaluru City Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal, DCP (Law and Order) Siddarth Goyal, and DCP (Crime and Traffic) Ravishankar, with the investigation led by CEN Station ACP Ravish Naik, Police Inspector Satish MP, and Sub-Inspector Gurappa Kanti.
