In a tragic incident in Purnia district, a man named Rakesh Rai was arrested on Sunday for murdering his wife, Jyoti Vishwakarma, in front of their 14-year-old son. The accused reportedly had an affair with a beautician, which Jyoti opposed.
The fatal incident occurred Saturday night in Prabhat Colony under the jurisdiction of K Hat police station. According to K Hat SHO Uday Kumar, Rakesh returned home intoxicated and started an argument with Jyoti. The situation escalated as Rakesh physically assaulted her.
Their son, Ansh Raj, who was sleeping nearby, heard his mother’s screams stop abruptly. When he came out, he found his father strangling his mother. Jyoti later died from her injuries.
After the attack, Rakesh called Jyoti’s mother, falsely claiming that Jyoti had fallen down the stairs. However, based on the son’s statement and initial investigations, the police arrested Rakesh.
Authorities continue to investigate the case, emphasizing the urgency of addressing domestic violence issues.
