BATU PAHAT — A 41-year-old man has been sentenced to 10 months in jail for stealing a tanker truck after claiming he had no other means of transportation to return to his home in Kuantan, Pahang. Mohd Jasmin Abdul Latif pleaded guilty to dishonestly retaining stolen property in a hearing at the Magistrate’s Court on February 21, 2025, before Magistrate Arun Noval Dass.

Mohd Jasmin was charged under Section 411 of the Penal Code for retaining stolen property after he stole a tanker truck from the roadside where it had been parked by its driver. The driver, a 36-year-old man, reported the theft to the police after the truck was taken at approximately 9:45 AM on February 18.

The truck was later tracked down by Tangkak traffic police in Sungai Rambai, Melaka, at 10:50 AM, with Mohd Jasmin behind the wheel.

Deputy Public Prosecutor Farah Wahidah Mohd Sharip handled the prosecution, while Siti Farha Garieb from the National Legal Aid Foundation represented the accused. The charge carries a maximum sentence of five years’ imprisonment and a fine, but Mohd Jasmin was sentenced to 10 months in jail.
