Vaniyambadi Town Police arrested S. Manickam, a 35-year-old man from Madhanur village, near Ambur, on Friday for stealing 17 sovereigns of gold, silver anklets, and Rs10,000 from a commuter in a government bus. The theft occurred a few days ago, when the victims were traveling from Vellore to Bengaluru.

According to the police, the victims, S. Dharmalingam, a 52-year-old rice merchant from Vellore, and his wife D. Latha, 47, were traveling together on the bus. They had placed their luggage on the steel rack above them. When the bus stopped at the New Town terminus under Vaniyambadi municipality limits, Latha checked her bag and discovered that their valuables were missing.

The police investigation led to the swift arrest of S. Manickam, who was allegedly responsible for the theft. He is now in custody, and authorities are continuing their inquiry into the matter.
