A 26-year-old man, Taufeeq, was arrested late Tuesday night for allegedly pushing 19-year-old Neha off the fifth-floor rooftop of her residence in northeast Delhi’s Ashok Nagar, police said.
The incident was reported to Jyoti Nagar Police Station around 8:30 am on Monday. Neha was found critically injured and rushed to Guru Teg Bahadur (GTB) Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries later that day.
To evade detection, Taufeeq entered the building wearing a burqa. Police sources confirmed he admitted to using the disguise to gain access to Neha’s home without arousing suspicion. CCTV footage corroborates this, showing a burqa-clad figure entering and leaving the premises under suspicious circumstances.
Police investigations revealed Taufeeq and Neha had been involved in a relationship for several months. Tensions reportedly escalated after Neha discovered Taufeeq’s family was arranging his marriage to another woman, leading to a confrontation on the rooftop.
However, Neha’s family denies any romantic involvement, stating she considered Taufeeq as a brother and had been tying rakhi to him for nearly three years. The family highlighted that Taufeeq was a frequent visitor to their home.
The investigation is ongoing as authorities continue piecing together the full timeline of the events leading to Neha’s tragic death.
