SEYMOUR — A Marion County man was arrested early Wednesday morning after a bizarre incident at a Circle K convenience store.
Joseph P. Dupree III, 43, of Indianapolis, faces four criminal charges: robbery, a Level 5 felony; theft, a Level 6 felony; criminal mischief, a Class A misdemeanor; and public indecency, also a Class A misdemeanor.
Seymour Police Department Lt. C.J. Foster reported that officers responded at 3:52 a.m. to the Circle K at 2119 E. Tipton St., after a clerk reported a naked man had entered the store and gone behind the front counter. The clerk locked the office and called authorities.
When police arrived, they found Dupree near the counter attempting to drink an alcoholic beverage. Video review reportedly showed him entering the store without clothes, taking cigarettes and a lighter, consuming alcohol, and breaking other alcoholic beverage containers on the floor.
Officers determined Dupree was under the influence of an unknown substance at the time of the incident. He was taken into custody and later booked into the Jackson County Jail in Brownstown.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
