The Periyanaickenpalayam police in Coimbatore district have arrested a man for allegedly murdering his colleague during a heated money dispute.

The victim, R Hariharan (25) from Samanaickenpalayam, worked alongside the accused, N Nagappan, at a fabrication firm. The two had ongoing disagreements related to money.

On Saturday night, Hariharan, his elder brother R Senthur Pandi, friend Ranjith, and Nagappan were drinking near a private foundry on the Samanaickenpalayam-Arivolinagar Road. During the gathering, Nagappan demanded repayment from Hariharan, which quickly escalated into a verbal and then physical confrontation.

In a fit of rage, Nagappan attacked both Hariharan and Senthur Pandi with a sickle. Hariharan succumbed to his injuries on the spot, while Senthur Pandi sustained minor wounds and received outpatient treatment at Periyanaickenpalayam Government Hospital.

Nagappan was arrested on Monday and has been remanded to judicial custody as the investigation continues.
