A 57-year-old man from Spring Farm, St James, has been arrested after allegedly posing as a medical doctor and fraudulently collecting money from a victim for a promised US visa. The accused, identified as Andrew Clarke, is facing charges of uttering forged documents, obtaining money by false pretence, and possession of a forged document.
The incident began on November 7, when the complainant visited the Spanish Town Hospital and met Clarke, who claimed to be a medical doctor at the institution. According to the complainant, Clarke offered to secure a US visa for him in exchange for $200,000.
The two reportedly met again at the hospital, where Clarke collected the agreed-upon sum for the visa. However, when the complainant tried to contact Clarke after the agreed-upon time for receiving the visa passed, he was unable to reach him.
A report was filed with the Spanish Town police, and an investigation was launched. Clarke was subsequently arrested at the Spanish Town Hospital, where he was found in possession of identification suggesting he was affiliated with the South East Regional Health Authority. However, further checks revealed that Clarke was not a licensed medical doctor.
Clarke is currently facing legal action, and a date for his court appearance is being finalized.
