SUMMERVILLE, S.C. — A 48-year-old man was arrested after leading deputies on a vehicle pursuit following an alleged vehicle theft from a local dealership Thursday afternoon.
Anthony Bailey of North Charleston is charged with grand larceny and failure to stop for blue lights, according to Sheriff’s spokesman Steven Wright.
Deputies were notified just after 1 p.m. that a vehicle had been stolen from a nearby dealership and was traveling on Dorchester Road toward Ashley Phosphate Road.
Authorities spotted the vehicle stopped at a red light and attempted a traffic stop by activating emergency lights and sirens. Bailey failed to comply and sped away, prompting a vehicle pursuit.
The pursuit ended when Bailey turned into a Spinx gas station, where additional law enforcement conducted a felony traffic stop and took him into custody.
Further investigation revealed that Bailey had allegedly visited the dealership earlier, claiming he needed a vehicle to travel to Cross, South Carolina, before taking it without permission.
Bailey was booked into the L.C. Knight Detention Center.
