Man Arrested After Buying 3 Homes for $10 Each

Memphis man accused of home fraud scheme

by Sophia Bennett

MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC/Gray News) — A Memphis man is behind bars after allegedly orchestrating a real estate fraud scheme where he acquired three homes for only $10 each using forged documents, according to police.

The investigation began in September 2024 when a homeowner reported that she was no longer listed as the owner of her property. Authorities say the transfer was illegally filed with the Shelby County Register’s Office, using what appeared to be her forged signature.

By December, two more victims came forward with similar complaints. In each case, documents on file claimed their properties had been sold — for just $10 — without their knowledge or consent.

Following a deeper investigation, Memphis police identified 34-year-old Stuart Breakstone as the person who filed all three fraudulent property transfers.

Authorities say Breakstone is also connected to a fourth case involving stolen identity, in which bank documents were falsified under another victim’s name.

Charges Filed Against Breakstone
Breakstone was arrested on April 14, 2025, and is currently facing multiple charges, including:

Theft of Property

Forgery

Falsifying Documents

Illegal Transfer of Real Estate

He is being held at the Shelby County Jail while the case is under further investigation.

Police are urging residents to monitor their property records regularly and report any suspicious activity to local authorities.
