A 30-year-old man has been arrested in Telangana’s Karimnagar district for allegedly murdering his elder brother and staging it as an accident to fraudulently claim Rs4.14 crore in insurance money, police said on Wednesday. Two accomplices involved in the conspiracy have also been arrested.
Karimnagar Police Commissioner Goush Alam said the investigation revealed that the main accused, Mamidi Naresh (30), was under severe financial stress after suffering major losses in business and the stock market, accumulating debts of nearly Rs1.5 crore. Seeking a way out, he decided to kill his unmarried and “mentally challenged” brother, Venkatesh (37), to collect insurance money.
Two months earlier, Naresh had purchased multiple insurance policies worth 4.14 crore in Venkatesh’s name. He then roped in his friend Namundla Rakesh (28) and a tipper driver Pradeep (29) to execute the plan. Rakesh was promised Rs13 lakh, while Pradeep was lured with Rs2 lakh. A video of the murder plan was recorded to ensure none of them could betray the others.
On the night of November 29, Pradeep called Naresh claiming that the tipper truck had broken down on the village outskirts. Venkatesh was asked to fix the tyres, and during the act, Naresh allegedly ran the tipper over him, killing him instantly. Naresh then reported the death as a road accident.
The conspiracy began unraveling when insurance company representatives visited the family and grew suspicious of Naresh’s inconsistent statements. Police examined his phone and discovered the recorded video outlining the murder plot.
Based on this evidence, police arrested Naresh, Rakesh, and Pradeep, confirming that the accident was a staged murder for insurance fraud.
