LEXINGTON PARK, MD – Maliq Rasheed McGill, 23, of Lexington Park, is facing multiple criminal charges in St. Mary’s County after two separate incidents involving firearm theft and assault while in custody.

McGill was indicted by a grand jury and is facing the following charges in the firearm theft case:

Felony theft: $1,500 to under $25,000

Illegal possession of a regulated firearm

Possession of a rifle or shotgun by a disqualified person

Possession of a stolen regulated firearm

According to court documents, on July 9, 2025, an adult female relative reported that her Daniel Defense AR-15, valued at $1,500, was stolen from her locked bedroom. Witnesses allegedly saw McGill leaving the home with bags, one believed to contain the firearm.

Later, McGill reportedly called the victim and claimed the gun had been stolen from him in Prince George’s County during an alleged assault.

Investigators were later informed by the Maryland Gun Center that McGill was legally barred from owning firearms due to a prior felony conviction.

He was arrested on September 23, 2025, and remains in custody at the St. Mary’s County Detention Center. A jury trial in the firearm case is set to begin on January 20, 2026, with Judge Kevin Hill presiding.

Jail Assault Case

In a separate case, McGill faces additional charges after an unprovoked assault inside the St. Mary’s County Detention Center on September 25, 2025:

Second-degree assault

Second-degree assault on a Department of Corrections employee or inmate

Surveillance footage reportedly shows McGill repeatedly striking another inmate in the face and head inside the facility’s E-Pod dayroom. The victim was treated for facial injuries at St. Mary’s Hospital.

Although the victim later claimed to have fallen down stairs, officers noted that his injuries matched the surveillance footage. McGill declined to speak to investigators after invoking his Miranda rights.

The assault may have stemmed from a prior dispute involving an offer to buy shoes, according to a detention sergeant.

A court date for the assault case has not yet been scheduled.
