A senior sales executive at Malabar Gold and Diamonds has been arrested for stealing gold worth Rs11,53,570 from the showroom. The accused, Rajeev, a native of Avalookunnu, Alappuzha, was apprehended by the South Police following a complaint lodged by the showroom head, V V Abdul Salim.

Rajeev, who also held the role of appraiser at the showroom, has been remanded and charged with theft and fraud. According to the First Information Report (FIR), the accused stole small pieces of old gold that were purchased from customers. To cover his tracks and maintain the weight, he replaced the stolen gold pieces with copper.

The theft was discovered during a routine inspection, leading to an investigation that uncovered the fraudulent activities. The police have now filed a case, and Rajeev remains in custody while further inquiries are underway.

This incident has raised concerns over internal thefts at jewelry stores, particularly involving employees responsible for appraising and handling valuable items.
