A thief who was caught attempting to steal from several vehicles and break into a Maidenhead home has been sentenced to one year in prison. Jason Perry, 35, was convicted of a series of theft-related offenses after a string of incidents in the Chauntry Road and Oldfield Road areas of Maidenhead.
The court heard that on December 29, 2023, Perry tried to open the doors of three parked cars. He was successful in entering one vehicle before climbing over a gate at a residential property. Perry attempted to gain access to the house through the back door but was unsuccessful.
The suspect was arrested on January 15, 2024, and subsequently charged the following day. Perry, who has no fixed address, pleaded guilty to three counts of vehicle interference, attempted burglary, theft from a motor vehicle, and attempted theft from a motor vehicle.
Reading Crown Court sentenced Perry to one year in prison on April 4, 2024.
PC Lily Ellis, the investigating officer, praised the victims for their vigilance during the investigation. “This result is the culmination of an investigation by Maidenhead’s Priority Crime Team into a string of theft-related offences in Maidenhead,” she said. “We would like to thank the victims of crime for their diligence in supporting this investigation, which has allowed us to quickly arrest and charge a prolific offender with multiple offences.”
She added: “This positive result is a reminder to all to report even what may seem a trivial offence. We are pleased Jason Perry has been held accountable for his actions and now has time to reflect on this behaviour.”
