In January, the Halton Regional Police Financial Crimes Unit initiated an extensive investigation into identity fraud allegations involving a woman who falsely presented herself as a licensed massage therapist. Operating from her home and providing mobile services, she misled several unsuspecting clients.

The investigation revealed that the suspect had obtained and was using the registration numbers of legitimate licensed massage therapists. After receiving payment for her services, she issued invoices to clients using these registration numbers, allowing them to claim reimbursements from their insurance providers. Additionally, she was found to be offering treatments, including physiotherapy and acupuncture, for which she lacked the necessary licenses. Over four years, the suspect allegedly defrauded clients out of $37,000 while masquerading as a licensed professional.

On July 23, 2024, Mahvish Ahmed, 49, from Milton, was arrested and charged with:

  • Fraud Over $5,000
  • Fraud Under $5,000
  • Identity Fraud (13 counts)

Ahmed has been released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court on August 26 in Milton.
