Mafua Afimeimounga Faces Meth, Cannabis Charges in Court

Bail Denied for Trio as Meth Remains National Concern

by Sophia Bennett

Mafua Afimeimounga, a Tongan national, appeared in court this afternoon alongside locals Mohammed Aziz and Merelita Kubuna, all charged with drug possession.

The three have been jointly charged with possession of 2.260 grams of methamphetamine and 1.4 grams of cannabis.

The court also heard that Afimeimounga is facing an additional, separate charge involving methamphetamine.

Bail was denied for all accused. The prosecution emphasized the seriousness of methamphetamine-related offenses in the country and expressed concern that the defendants may abscond if released.

All three have sought Legal Aid representation and have been instructed to submit a formal bail application.

The case is scheduled to return to court on July 25.
