The Madurai Narcotics Intelligence Bureau CID unit seized 176 kilograms of dry ganja and arrested one person on Monday, September 22, 2025.
Acting on a tip-off, a team led by Inspector of Police R. Rajangam intercepted a truck near the Chittampatti tollgate. Upon inspection, officials discovered 176 kg of dry ganja being smuggled from Andhra Pradesh. The container lorry bore a Karnataka registration number.
The lorry driver, S. Maruthupandi (39), a resident of Adipatti village in Aruppukottai Taluk, Virudhunagar district, was arrested on the spot.
Preliminary investigations revealed that Maruthupandi was responsible for trafficking the seized ganja from Andhra Pradesh. A case has been registered under Sections 8(c), 20(b)(ii)(C), 25, and 29(1) of the NDPS Act.
Maruthupandi has been remanded to judicial custody, while police continue their intensive efforts to identify and apprehend other individuals involved in the smuggling operation.
