A police constable from Madurai, Senthilkumar, who served as a personal security officer to an MP, has been arrested for running a fake government job scam alongside an AIADMK functionary. The Nungambakkam police took Senthilkumar into custody and brought him to Chennai on Thursday morning. Additionally, a Sub-Inspector from Coimbatore’s anti-terror unit was detained based on digital evidence linking him to the scam.
The Nungambakkam police revealed that Senthilkumar collected money by promising government jobs on behalf of Prasad, an AIADMK IT Wing functionary. Prasad was recently arrested in an attempted murder case connected to a brawl at a Nungambakkam bar in late May. Multiple victims have come forward, filing complaints about being duped by false job promises. So far, three cases have been registered in the Mylapore and Nungambakkam police stations.
The scam was uncovered following the bar fight that led to the arrest of Prasad, AIADMK functionary Ajay Vandayar, and a known rowdy, Sunami Sethupati. Police investigations found incriminating evidence on Prasad’s phone that linked him to the job racket. Further inquiries are ongoing.
