Two women were arrested by the Vishrambaug police on Sunday after they allegedly attempted to snatch a gold chain from a child at the Dagduseth Halwai Ganpati temple in Pune.

The accused, identified as Madhuri Santosh Dukale (23) and Kavya Tanveer Jadhav (21), both residents of the railway lines area, targeted the child while he and his mother, Sonali Borate, were waiting in line for Ganpati darshan.

According to the police, the child was in his mother’s arms when the two women made an attempt to steal the gold chain from his neck. Sonali Borate noticed the suspicious activity and raised an alarm, alerting nearby temple security.

Responding quickly, a security guard apprehended the duo and handed them over to police personnel at the site.

Police constable Ganesh Kate, who is investigating the case, confirmed that the offense was registered under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the two women were taken into custody the same evening.
