A murder accused who had been on the run for over 12 years was arrested in Bhubaneswar on Friday. Madhab Panigrahy, from Gosaninuagaon in Berhampur, was allegedly involved in the 2013 murder of Shanti Mishra, along with 12 other co-accused.
While the 12 other individuals were arrested and sentenced to life imprisonment for their roles in the murder, Panigrahy managed to evade capture until now. According to Berhampur SP Saravana Vivek M, a police team tracked a tip-off to Bhubaneswar, where they successfully arrested him, bringing the case to a close.
After the murder in January 2013, Madhab Panigrahy fled to Gujarat. He returned to Bhubaneswar a few years later and started working in various businesses, including opening a shop and later working as a driver for two ride-hailing apps. Despite his new life, Panigrahy never returned to Berhampur, even when his mother passed away, out of fear of being arrested.
A special police team had been monitoring his movements for the past two months, leading to his eventual capture. With Panigrahy’s arrest, all of the accused in the Shanti Mishra murder case have now been apprehended.
