Coimbatore: Police have arrested two more individuals for allegedly aiding a major burglary in which 13 flats were targeted in a housing unit at Kavundampalayam on November 28.
The accused, M Dawood (18) and I Firiyan (23), both natives of Uttar Pradesh, were taken into custody on Monday. Investigators revealed that the duo had arrived in the city in October and were conducting reconnaissance of residential complexes, particularly those housing government employees.
According to police, Dawood and Firiyan posed as utensil sellers to gain entry into the housing unit, collect information, and identify vulnerable flats. They then passed on the details to their associates — I Asif, Arif, and Irfan — who were earlier apprehended after being shot in the legs during a police operation.
The duo also allegedly assisted the gang by booking train tickets and coordinating the burglary plan.
Both accused have been remanded to judicial custody at the Coimbatore Central Prison. Police are continuing their investigation to uncover the full extent of the network and any additional accomplices involved in the case.
