Amsterdam, NY — Lyndsey Nellis, a 31-year-old resident of Amsterdam, New York, was arrested on April 16, 2025, following a joint investigation by the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Unit, the Department of Social Services, and the Montgomery County District Attorney’s Office.

Nellis has been charged with three counts of offering a false instrument for filing in the first degree, a class E felony, and one count of welfare fraud in the third degree, a class D felony.

Authorities allege that Nellis failed to report her husband’s residence in the household and did not disclose his earned income while receiving welfare benefits. As a result of these allegations, she faces multiple felony charges.

Nellis was processed at the Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office and held for arraignment in the City of Amsterdam Court. She was released on her own recognizance and is scheduled for a return court date.
