HAVERFORDWEST, WALES – A drug-addicted dealer told a court that his arrest by police last year may have saved his life.
Luke Jones, 33, was stopped on the A476 near Haverfordwest on June 3, 2023, by officers who noted his “glassy eyes” and conducted a roadside drug test. Jones tested positive for cocaine and cannabis, and when questioned, admitted to having cannabis, cocaine, and “pollen” (a slang term for cannabis resin) in his car.
During a search of the vehicle, police uncovered 13g of cocaine valued up to £1,700, 41g of cannabis, and 54g of cannabis resin in vacuum-sealed bags.
A search of his home revealed even more:
135g of amphetamine
A half-gram mix of ketamine and ecstasy
Additional amounts of cocaine and cannabis resin
£337 in cash, empty snap-bags, and digital weighing scales
Incriminating messages were also found on his phone, clearly indicating drug dealing.
Prosecutor Regan Walters told Swansea Crown Court that Jones had been dealing to fund his own addiction, rooted in significant childhood trauma and the loss of several close family members.
Jones’ defense barrister said her client viewed the arrest as a turning point in his life and acknowledged the damage drugs had caused him.
While sentencing, the judge told Jones that those who deal in Class A drugs are always aware of the consequences. However, the court was told that Jones is now taking steps toward recovery.
