AXTON, Va. — Luis Antonio Bacerra-Eames, 26, was arrested by Henry County Sheriff’s Office (HCSO) officers after being accused of beating two dogs with a baseball bat, punching them, and striking one with a large rock.

Authorities responded to a report of animal cruelty at a residence on Kimway Drive in Axton. During their investigation, deputies confirmed that Bacerra-Eames had repeatedly struck the dogs, both mixed pit bulls, with a bat and punched them multiple times. One of the dogs was also reportedly struck with a rock.

Sheriff Wayne Davis confirmed that deputies arrived at the home to check the well-being of the animals. When Bacerra-Eames came outside, law enforcement informed him of his arrest. The situation quickly escalated, with the suspect either attempting to assault officers or flee the scene.

During the ensuing altercation, Bacerra-Eames allegedly bit one deputy twice and struck another officer with his elbow several times. The deputies managed to subdue him, but one officer suffered a laceration that may require stitches, and the other deputy’s injuries were not severe.

Bacerra-Eames was transported to SOVAH Health Martinsville for treatment of minor injuries before being taken into custody. He was charged with:

Two counts of Animal Cruelty (felony)

Two counts of Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer (felony)

Resisting Arrest (misdemeanor)

The two dogs involved in the incident were evaluated by a local veterinarian and will be housed at the Henry County Animal Shelter while their recovery continues.
