Luis Alberto Ruiz Jr., 21, was arrested in El Paso after allegedly fleeing from police in his Nissan 370Z on multiple occasions, including an incident where he nearly struck a police sergeant.
Ruiz faces charges of aggravated assault against a public servant and two felony counts of evading arrest with a vehicle. His arrest followed a tip from Crime Stoppers of El Paso after the case was highlighted as the “Crime of the Week” earlier this month.
According to court records, Ruiz remains held at the Downtown Jail on a bond of $160,000. During a teleconference bond hearing on April 27, Magistrate Judge Ruben Núñez decided not to lower the bond, citing concerns over the seriousness of the charges and the potential danger to the community and law enforcement officers.
Ruiz is currently on deferred probation after pleading guilty to assaulting a peace officer during an arrest related to a house party shooting in 2023.
