Lucy Thomson Dethroned After Racist Assault at Rugby Event

Ex-Miss Scotland lost her crown after attacking two bouncers

by Amelia Crawford

Former Miss Scotland Lucy Thomson, 26, has been stripped of her crown after being found guilty of racially abusing and assaulting two bouncers at the Edinburgh City 7s rugby event in June 2023.

Thomson and her sister were removed from the event when she attacked security staff, biting one of them and racially abusing Andrew Okpaje. Okpaje reported the incident, leading to Thomson’s conviction for assault and racially aggravated behavior.

Following the verdict, Miss Scotland pageant organizers revoked her title, stating they do not tolerate such behavior.

Thomson’s case is one of several beauty queen scandals that have made headlines in recent years, proving that a crown does not grant immunity from justice.
