SONORA, Calif. — A stolen vehicle was recovered and a suspect was arrested following an investigation by the Sonora Police Department earlier this week.
Police said the incident began early Sunday morning when a resident reported their vehicle stolen from downtown Sonora. Investigators reviewed nearby surveillance footage and identified a male suspect entering the vehicle and driving away.
Officers began patrolling the surrounding area and later located the stolen car at the Crossroads Shopping Center. The driver was identified as 31-year-old Lucio Rafael Estrada-Cardoso, a Sonora resident.
Due to the nature of the crime, Sonora Police requested assistance from the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office and the California Highway Patrol. A high-risk traffic stop was conducted, and Estrada-Cardoso was taken into custody without incident.
He was transported to the Tuolumne County Jail and booked on charges of possession of a stolen vehicle and public intoxication.
