BRUNSWICK COUNTY, N.C. — A Brunswick County Superior Court jury has convicted Lucas Sutton, 21, on two counts of first-degree murder and one count of discharging a weapon into an occupied vehicle.

Sutton was sentenced on Wednesday, Jan. 7, to 25 years to life in prison with the possibility of parole, along with an additional 50 to 72 months in the custody of the North Carolina Department of Adult Corrections.

According to the office of District Attorney Jon David, the crimes occurred on March 6, 2022, when Sutton was 17 years old. Prosecutors said Sutton and two co-defendants, Christopher Brooks and Antwan Thorne, shot and killed two acquaintances at a cemetery in the community of Northwest.

The district attorney’s office stated that all three defendants were members of the Rollin 60s subset of the Crips street gang.

First Assistant District Attorney Jenna Earley said the verdict brings closure to a violent and tragic case, emphasizing that gang-related violence will not be tolerated in local communities.

The case was investigated by the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigation and the Brunswick County Sheriff’s Office.
