The Shahkot police have registered a dowry harassment case against Lovepreet Singh, a native of Kherra village in Ludhiana currently residing in Austria, along with his mother Kulwindar Kaur and father Pritam Pal.

The case, filed under Section 498-A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC), stems from a complaint lodged by Sukhveer Kaur of Punia village, who is Lovepreet’s wife.

According to the complaint, Sukhveer was subjected to mental and physical torture by her husband and in-laws for failing to bring more dowry. She alleged that the family frequently beat her, restricted her movement, and pressured her for additional dowry even after marriage.

Lovepreet Singh, although currently based in Austria, has been charged along with his parents who live in Punjab. The police confirmed that the investigation is ongoing, and further action will be taken based on evidence and legal procedure.

Dowry harassment remains a serious and punishable offence under Indian law. Authorities have urged victims of such abuse to report incidents immediately for timely intervention.
