Louisiana Man Arrested After Stealing School Bus, Leading Police on Chase

Samuel Selders, Jr., 33, faces multiple charges after fleeing from authorities in stolen East Baton Rouge Parish school bus

BATON ROUGE, LA – Samuel Selders, Jr., a 33-year-old man from Louisiana, was arrested on Wednesday, May 7, 2025, after stealing an East Baton Rouge Parish school bus and leading deputies on a brief police chase.

The incident began at approximately 6:15 a.m., when Selders, Jr. was approached by authorities while inside the school bus. Instead of complying, he reportedly drove off, initiating a pursuit that took him eastbound down Interstate 10.

The Iberville Parish Sheriff’s Office immediately responded, and after about 10 minutes, deputies were able to stop the stolen bus using spike strips near the Lobdell exit.

Selders was arrested and now faces several charges, including two counts of illegal possession of stolen things, one count of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and one count of flight from an officer.

Authorities have not disclosed the reason behind the theft, and further details on the firearm charge have not been released.

The West Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s Office assisted in the pursuit, which ended without any reported injuries. Selders is currently in custody and awaiting further legal proceedings.
