WALDORF, Md. – On August 20 at around 10:59 a.m., Waldorf patrol officers responded to a grocery store on King Street after a theft was reported in progress. Store security informed officers that two suspects had stolen a shopping cart filled with laundry detergent, cleaning supplies, personal care products, steaks, and other items valued at approximately $1,200.
Officers arrived to find the male and female suspects entering a white Mercedes ML350 in the parking lot. When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the driver, later identified as 27-year-old Lonnell Demontae Jennings of Washington, D.C., fled. Jennings lost control of the car and crashed into a wooded area on Poplar Hill Road. He then tried to escape on foot but was quickly apprehended.
Jennings was treated for minor injuries at a hospital before being transported to the Charles County Detention Center. He faces charges including theft under $1,500, disorderly conduct, and other related offenses. Authorities noted that Jennings had multiple active warrants for theft from other jurisdictions.
The female suspect, 24-year-old Khadijah Tufaye Spurlock, also from Washington, D.C., was taken into custody at the crash scene and charged with theft under $1,500 and disorderly conduct. All stolen merchandise was recovered from the vehicle.
Spurlock was released on personal recognizance by a district court commissioner on August 20, while Jennings was ordered held without bond by a judge on August 21. The investigation remains ongoing.
