Police have arrested and sent a local hoodlum to jail for assaulting a Class 11 student, slapping and spitting on her face in retaliation for protesting harassment. The incident came to light after the student’s mother filed a complaint on September 10. A video later surfaced showing the accused in police custody.
The complainant, a widow living in a rented house with her daughter, stated that the accused had been harassing her daughter for the past three years. On September 8, while the girl was returning from coaching, the accused, along with eight to ten youths, blocked her path and attempted to forcibly take her away by grabbing her hand.
When the student resisted, the accused slapped her three times and spat on her face. He also assaulted her friend and two other students who protested against the attack.
A case was registered following an appeal to the Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), and the accused is now in custody as further investigation continues.
