Srinagar police have attached a double-storey house and 12.5 marlas of land, valued at approximately Rs 1.6 crore, belonging to an alleged drug peddler, as part of legal action under the NDPS Act.
The move was carried out by Police Station Nowgam in connection with FIR No. 128/2022, registered under Sections 8, 22, and 29 of the NDPS Act. The case stems from the recovery of a substantial quantity of codeine bottles from the accused, identified as Liyaqat Ali Bhat, son of Bashir Ahmad Bhat, resident of Auqaf Chowk, Kenihama, Nowgam, Srinagar.
During the investigation, it was established that the property had been acquired using proceeds generated from illegal narcotics trafficking. Acting on this, the asset was attached under Section 68-F of the NDPS Act after approval from the competent authority.
The attachment proceedings were conducted in the presence of Executive Magistrate First Class BK Pora and independent witnesses, following due legal procedures. The property owner has been restrained from selling, leasing, transferring, altering, or creating third-party interests in the attached asset.
Police reiterated their commitment to taking stringent action against drug peddlers and dismantling financial networks supporting narcotics trade. Citizens are urged to cooperate by sharing credible information to help curb the drug menace.
