LINCOLN, Neb. (KOLN) – A Lincoln man has been arrested in connection with a series of burglaries in southeast Lancaster County, resulting in the theft of more than $38,000 worth of property.

According to Lancaster County Chief Deputy Ben Houchin, six burglaries and two thefts were reported over the past week and a half. The stolen items included lawnmowers, tools, ladders, and high-value lawn furniture, taken from unlocked garages and outbuildings.

On Monday, deputies executed a search warrant and recovered over $27,000 worth of stolen property from a storage unit rented by 29-year-old Jacob Peterson. He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of burglary.

During his arraignment on Wednesday, a judge set Peterson’s bond at 10% of $5,000, and his next court hearing is scheduled for November 6.

“Getting Jacob arrested stopped a lot more people from becoming victims,” said Houchin, who noted that Peterson was identified through surveillance video and physical evidence.

The sheriff’s office urged residents to take preventive measures to avoid becoming victims of theft, such as using outdoor lighting, security cameras, alarm systems, and properly securing their property. “Nobody deserves to be a victim, but you can help yourself not to be,” Houchin added.
