Liam Cowley, 32, has been jailed for a terrifying home invasion and sexual assault in Liverpool, where he targeted a pregnant woman in her own home.
Cowley, who had no fixed address, stole one of the victim’s front door keys and repeatedly broke in, threatening her with social services to manipulate her into submission. At times, he assaulted her while she was asleep, exploiting her fear that her children could be taken away.
During the trial at Liverpool Crown Court, prosecutor Martine Snowdon stated: “The defendant repeatedly acted without consent, using threats and intimidation to control the victim during these attacks.”
In one chilling incident, Cowley entered the home while the victim’s children were sleeping upstairs. He headbutted and spat on her, then demanded she make him food. When she refused, he punched her in the head and destroyed her phone to prevent her from calling emergency services.
Despite fleeing outside to seek help, the victim was dragged back inside, where Cowley grabbed her throat and began choking her. The horrifying ordeal left the woman in fear for her life.
Cowley has now been sentenced for his violent, premeditated attacks, ensuring he is removed from the streets and justice has been served for his victim.
